Mythical Sands Resort & Spa · Kapparis, Cyprus

Galini & Halcyon

Two apartments where the day slows down — one facing the sea, one opening onto green, breezy gardens. Everything for your stay in one place.

The Apartments

Two ways to stay

Both sit inside the Mythical Sands resort, moments from the pools, the gym and the sea — but each has its own character. Halcyon looks out over the water; Galini opens onto the green, breezy side of the resort.

The names behind the doors

In Greek myth, the gods turned the faithful lovers Alcyone and Ceyx into kingfishers — halcyons — reunited over the water forever. Each winter, Aeolus, keeper of the winds, holds his breath for fourteen days so the sea lies perfectly calm and the halcyon can nest. The Greeks called them the halcyon days: days of peace, sunshine and still, calm seas.

So Halcyon looks out over that calm water — and Galini, whose name is simply the Greek word for calm, keeps the same promise on the garden side, where the breeze comes through the trees.

May every day of your stay be a halcyon day. ☀

Your arrival details

In your apartment

The two apartments are equipped differently — pick yours.

External blinds — please read

Galini has electric external blinds (rolling shutters) on the balcony doors. They are powerful and they cannot feel an obstruction — if something is in the way, the blind does not stop. It bends, and the whole unit has to be replaced.

Before you press the button to close them, always look down and check the track is clear. The usual culprits:

· a chair or stool pushed too close to the glass
· the drying rack, or a towel hung over the rail
· a plant pot, a beach bag, shoes, toys
· anything resting on the threshold or in the side rails

The balcony doors slide — please slide them fully shut before you lower the blinds, and make sure nothing is left sitting in the runner.

Close them slowly and keep watching until they are fully down. If a blind jams, sticks or sounds wrong, stop immediately, press up, and message us — don't force it.

Damage to an external blind is expensive to put right: a replacement is charged at €1,000. Three seconds of looking before you press saves it. Thank you for treating them carefully.

Kitchen — induction hob & combi oven

Induction hob: touch the power symbol to wake it, select a zone, then slide up to your heat level. Induction only works with magnetic pans — all the pans provided are the right type. It heats very fast, so start lower than you would at home. The surface locks if liquid spills on the controls — wipe it dry and it resets.

Combi oven (with built-in microwave): this single appliance does both jobs, so there is no separate microwave.

· To microwave: select the microwave mode, set the power level and the time, then start.
· To bake or roast: select the fan-oven mode and your temperature, and give it about 10 minutes to pre-heat.
· Combi mode uses both together for faster roasting — handy but optional.

Please use only microwave-safe dishes in microwave mode — no metal or foil — and be careful with the door and interior, as they get hot in oven mode.

Nespresso: lift the lever, drop in a pod, close it and press the cup button. Dishwasher tablets and a starter set of coffee, tea, salt, oil and sugar are provided.

Laundry — washer & dryer

Galini has its own washing machine and tumble dryer — no need to go out.

Detergent is provided. Load the drum, add detergent, choose Cottons 40°C for a normal load (about 2 hours) or a Quick programme for a fast wash.

The dryer works the same way — the everyday setting is Cupboard Dry. Please clean the lint filter after each use; it dries much better that way.

TV & Apple TV

Apple TV: turn on the TV and select the Apple TV input. Sign in to your own Netflix, Disney+ or YouTube account — and please sign out again before you leave.

Air-conditioning (2 × LG)

Galini has two LG units — one in the bedroom, one in the living area — each with its own handset.

To cool: choose the snowflake mode and set around 24°C. To heat in cooler months: the same units heat, so choose the sun mode and set 22–24°C.

They can also be controlled from the LG ThinQ app if you prefer. Please keep windows and the balcony door closed while the A/C runs, and switch it off when you go out.

Underfloor heating

Galini has electric underfloor heating — lovely on a cool morning, and the reason the apartment stays comfortable well outside the summer season.

You don't need to programme anything. We set the schedule up before you arrive, so all you do is put the thermostat into automatic mode and forget about it — it warms up and switches off on its own.

There are two thermostats — one in the living room and one in the bedroom — so the rooms are heated separately. If you'd rather not heat one of them at all, just leave that thermostat off.

Underfloor heating warms the whole floor slab, so give it an hour or two to come up from cold — that's normal, not a fault. Please don't cover the floor with thick rugs, suitcases or boxes for long periods; the heat needs somewhere to go.

In summer you won't need it at all — the A/C is the one you want.

Bathroom & towels

A walk-in shower, with the WC in the same room. Hand soap and shower gel are provided, along with a starter supply of toilet paper, and there's a hairdryer.

One bath towel per guest is provided. Please bring your own beach towels — the resort asks that apartment towels aren't taken to the pool or the beach.

Please also see the note below about the toilet and water — it applies to both apartments and it matters.

Sofa bed — opens into a double

The couch in the living area converts into a comfortable double bed:

· Clear the space in front of the couch — the bed needs room to unfold.
· Find the handle at the front and pull it towards you.
· Once it's out, pull it up and the bed unfolds into place.

To close it, push the base down and slide it back until it clicks. Spare bedding is in the apartment.

Kitchen — hob, oven & microwave

Hob: four rings, glass top with touch controls. It heats fast, so start lower than you would at home. The surface locks if liquid spills on the controls — wipe it dry and it resets.

Oven (Pitsos): under the hob, with dial controls — one for the setting, one for the temperature. Allow about 10 minutes to pre-heat.

Microwave: on the kitchen island. Microwave-safe dishes only — no metal or foil.

There's also a dishwasher, extractor hood, kettle, toaster, a tea maker and a Nespresso machine (lift the lever, drop in a pod, close, press the cup button), plus a full-height fridge-freezer.

Waiting for you when you arrive: a bottle of wine, drinking water, a few Nespresso pods, tea and coffee, salt, oil and sugar, washing-up liquid and dishwasher tablets. Enough to get you through the first evening without a shop run.

Laundry — washing machine

The washing machine is built into a kitchen cabinet. There's no tumble dryer, but in the Cyprus climate things dry very quickly — a drying rack is provided, and there's an iron and ironing board too.

Everyday programme: Sensitive 40°C (about 2 hours).

Please note: washing detergent isn't provided — any supermarket on Kapparis Avenue has it, a few minutes' walk away.

If you'd rather not wash at home:

· Laundry Station (Windmills), Perneras Ave 58 — ~4 min drive, open 24 h, self-service, detergent machine on site, free parking opposite.
· Penguins Laundry & Dry Cleaner (★4.8, ~8 min) — excellent same-day wash-and-fold, open Sunday mornings.
· Premier Laundry Services (★4.7) — will collect from and deliver to the resort, Mon–Sat.

Air-conditioning (2 × Samsung)

Two Samsung units — one in the bedroom, one in the living room — each with its own remote handset.

To cool: choose the snowflake mode and set around 24°C. To heat in cooler months: the same units heat, so choose the sun mode and set 22–24°C.

Please keep windows and the balcony door closed while the A/C runs, and switch it off when you go out — Cyprus electricity is precious.

TV & rainy-day things

A smart TV in the living area with Netflix, YouTube and the usual apps built in. Sign in to your own accounts — and please sign out again before you leave.

There are also board games, books and cards in the apartment for a quiet evening or a rainy afternoon.

Sleeping — the bedroom & sofa bed

A separate bedroom with a double bed, plus the corner couch in the living room which opens into a second double — four guests in total.

To open the sofa bed: clear the space in front of it, find the handle at the front and pull it out towards you; once it's out, pull it up and the bed unfolds into place. To close it, push the base down and slide it back until it clicks.

Spare bedding is in the cabinet.

Bathroom & towels

A walk-in shower, with the WC in the same room. Hand soap and shower gel are provided, along with a starter supply of toilet paper.

The hairdryer is in the cupboard below the sink.

One bath towel per guest is provided. We don't supply beach towels — please bring your own, or buy one locally; the resort also asks that apartment towels aren't taken to the pool.

The balcony

A table and four chairs, with an ashtray if you smoke (balcony only, please — never drop anything over the edge).

The view looks down the street to the sea in the distance. The balcony comes into its own from about 5pm, when the sun comes round and the heat drops — the right time for a glass of something before dinner.

Good to know — both apartments

Water & the toilet

Please do NOT put paper (or anything) in the toilet — Cyprus plumbing is narrow and blocks easily. Use the bin next to the toilet.

Water is scarce on the island: short showers, taps off while brushing teeth, and please report any drips or leaks.

House rules

· Quiet hours after 22:00 — keep noise down on the balcony and by the pool. No parties or events.
· No smoking inside. On the balcony, use an ashtray and never drop butts over the edge.
· Bag your rubbish and take it to the resort bins regularly (food waste attracts ants in summer).
· Recycling: separate it and drop at the resort's recycling area near the football field.
· Rinse off beach sand at the beach showers before coming in.
· Treat the apartment as your home — tell us straight away about any breakage; accidents happen. 💛

Pools, gym & the blue fob

Your blue magnetic fob opens the resort doors, gates and both pools. Carry it with you and keep it safe — there's a charge if it's lost.

Please shower before swimming, supervise children at the main pool (there is no lifeguard), take no glass into the pool areas, and use your own towels rather than the apartment's white bath towels.

The gym is just below the apartments — ask there about access and class times for the Pilates studio.

Check-out

By 11:00 (late check-out may be possible — just ask). Please: switch off the A/C, lights & appliances; close and lock all windows and the balcony door; take rubbish to the resort bins; and leave the keys and blue fob on the kitchen table (or as agreed).
